Technique to prevent the Pull Hook or the Push Shot

Technique to prevent the Pull Hook or the Push Shot

Problem Observation; the FEET at address are CLOSED !(Back foot behind Front foot)

Many golfers have their feet closed at address (set up time) which usually results in one of the following;

1) Either there is a tendency on the downswing to Spin the body (lead by the Shoulders) and cut across the ball at impact.

Results; a Pulled Shot

2) Or, there is a tendency on the downswing to Block the shot (hips slide through at impact instead of clearing at impact).

Results; a Pushed Shot

Rx Recommended;

At address Open the Feet slightly (referred to as an Open Stance) and keep your hips and shoulders SQUARE.

This will allow the forward hip to automatically CLEAR at impact and help you to swing through the ball and down the target line. The resulting ball flight should be fairly straight and accurate plus with the square hit you should get more distance.

Drill Recommended;

A technique for practicing Opening your Stance when Setting Up at Address is to put a club on the ground across your feet, parallel to the target line and make sure your Forward foot stays slightly behind your Back foot (Open Stance).

Practice this set up technique over and over until it becomes an automatic part of your Set Up Routine!!!!!!!!!!
