Aiming Technique

Aiming Technique (APPLYS TO LEFT & RIGHT HANDED PLAYERS)
Problem: I find a lot of golfers are not aiming the clubface at the target correctly, especially for long distance shots (Tee shots, and Long Irons). The clubface is usually aimed away from the target.. (I.e. Right hander-usually aimed right of target Left hander - usually aimed left of target)
Cause: A common method used by players that cause this problem is what I call sideways aligning, when golfers set up to the ball and turn their head towards the target and then try to align the clubface to the target)!! The problem with this method is that their dominant eye causes them to align the club face away from the target!!
Note; The club face being a few degrees off the target line for long shots translates into many yards off the mark. A couple of degrees off the target line on a putt can mean a missed putt by inches.
Rx recommended: A "4 Point Method" to Square the club face to the target: Put simply, prior to setting up, you line your clubface (point 1), the ball (point 2), a spot two feet in front of your ball(point 3) and the target (point 4) all in one line aimed at the target. Procedure to align these 4 points straight at the target; Step a) - Get behind the ball and face your target Step b) - Draw an imaginary line from the target to your ball Step c) - Pick out a spot on this imaginary line two feet in front of your ball Step d) - Place the club face behind the ball so that the club face and your ball line up with the interim spot on the target line Now keep the club face pointing at that interim spot while you Set Up to the ball.
Drill: Practice this aiming procedure at different targets and have someone stand behind you to verify your club face is pointing to the intended target. Practice aiming at different targets until the procedure is repeatable and automatic.
"USE THIS AIMING PROCEDURE FOR ALL SHOTS (TEE THRU GREEN)"
