FOCUS ON PRE-SWING BASICS
By: Golf Guru - Director of Golf Instruction
Problem Description:
Most weekend players with very little experience or with a lot of experience are so anxious to get out and play (after all that's the fun part of the game !!),that they avoid focusing on the PRE-SWING BASICS (such as: correct GRIP, a balanced and relaxed SETUP with body ALIGNED correctly, club face AIMED at the target, and the correct PLACEMENT of the ball ). As a result, most of the problems encountered on the course plus the resulting high scores can be tracked back to one or more of the PRE-SWING BASICS where a bad habit was formed.
Rx recommended:*****
Go back and focus on formulating correct PRE-SWING BASICS. Form good habits through PRACTICE DRILLS for each of these basics, repeat these drills over and over until they become automatic for you.
NOTE: you do not have to hit any balls to practice the PRE-SWING basics. All drills can be done in the home or in the office etc. etc..(e.g.; practice the correct GRIP by forming your hands and fingers around a pencil, doing it over and over until it becomes second nature).
It has been my experience that the number one "culprit" in not SQUARING the clubface at impact, (giving you slices, pushes, hooks, weak shots etc. etc.) is due to an INCORRECT GRIP (i.e. grip is in the PALMS instead of being in the FINGERS where you can control the clubface and release through the ball).
Enlist the services of a Professional Golf Instructor and have him or her teach you the PRE-SWING BASICS. Master these basics and you will gain confidence, have a more repeatable swing and get enjoyment as your game improves and your scores improve.
